Let’s get mushy – Career talks

This blog is about to be the mushiest I will ever get on the internet. It’s an ode to my career that’s going to highlight some twists and turns that I’ve never talked about publicly. Buckle in.

Let’s take it back to college – christian school – studied Art. What was the plan there? I don’t know still to this day but it was a beautifully chaotic experience for so many reasons but that’s a story for another blog/day. Post college, I did the waitress and struggle like everyone who graduated during the recession then took a lame customer service job to keep the lights on and pay my college debt.

Circle to 3 years later, a girl from my college days reached out and literally said, “hey, we are hiring a bunch of entry level marketers – you should check it out.” Within 1 week I was hired and starting. The hooked me with the location (0.7 miles from my apartment), the pay, and the executives who wore shorts and flip flops to work. I struggled and then took ahold of marketing and taught myself so much. I got promoted 2 times in my time there and my last role there, I was over my head with a manager who wasn’t a content marketer. I ended up begging to be let go. So I was!

From there, I took a contract role with someone I viewed as a mentor. Without saying too much, she publicily shamed me in an open forum and was a horrible boss, manager, and mentor.

Then I landed somewhere I say myself for 10+ years. I was happy in my niche. I had autonomy. I had a leader who respected my hustle and my brain power. I was vibing, hiring a team, and just having the best time being a marketer. Then we got acquired and my boss retired. I wanted out. I got out and found my home at FloQast. Best move I could have made.

FloQast has truly been so inspiring to me and pushed me to my limits on what I thought I could be verses what I already am. I started in a Demand Generation role and really enjoyed all of it then found my niche getting back into the Microsoft community. Now I’m our Senior Partner Marketing Manager owning our Tech Alliances. This role is exactly what I should be doing and FloQast truly enabled me to get here.

Insert mushy feels here!

Being at FloQast has been super pivotal to launching the career I want. I came into FloQast on the Demand Generation team and had a blast creating programs and campaigns for our prospects and customers. As I grew in my role here, I was able to flex into experiences that lead me to pursue a passion.

FloQast gave me the ability to show my skills and because of the way our team is structured, I was able to move and get promoted after 2 years here into a job that I feel I was meant to do. I’m now on the Partner Marketing team and couldn’t be happier that FloQast helped me get here.

I get to hang out with partners and prospects and talk about FloQast and life all the time and it’s truly been life changing for me. My passion for people is now a huge part of my work and my life bleeds into my work naturally but not in the scary way people experience.

Working a conference with FloQast (a huge part of my job), I get to talk about how FloQast can change the daily lifes of accountants alongside some badass coworkers, hang out with partners and strategize on growth ideas, and see peers who have become friends. My days are long but I feel such energy from them. I find that long days with FloQast are so much easier than any other company or role I have because it’s something I truly am passionate about. It’ makes a world of difference.

If you want to live a life of passion and let it flow from work to your personal life – you have to stretch and evolve to get there. You have to fail and fall on your face. You have to have horrible experiences like a boss telling you, you are not coachable – in order to find your niche.

Another thing that I didn’t ever think was possible and now it’s my favorite thing to do – Speaking at conferences. This year has changed my life in that way. Prior to 2023, I did 2 webinars and had some big fears about being unapologitically myself in my work life. This year I decided to test it out. Test the waters and now look at me! Posting videos on LinkedIn with my top tips, being on panels, hosting speaking sessions and sharing my love of marketing and research with the masses. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

All this to say – if you are feeling off or like your job is pulling negatively into your life – you are the only one who has the power to evolve and change that. You are the keeper of your passion and your job! Harness your power and strive to change. It will change your life! I can’t imagine being anything other than this in my current state of life. Happy, healthy, passionate, and thriving.

Best of luck on your journey to get to where you feel most fulfilled and whole. Know you are not alone and we are all fighting the good fit. Don’t do it alone.
